Name: 殺生丸 – Sesshoumaru/ Sesshomaru and sometimes it can be spelled as Sessyoumaru.
Age: Nineteen (in human year).
Race: Inu youkai (dog demon).
Family: Father (dead), mother and a haft-brother Inuyasha.
Weapon: Tenseiga, Tokijin (broken), Bakusaiga.

Sesshoumaru is one of the sons of the powerful youkai leader Inu no Taisho (Though Inu no Taisho is not a name, it’s easier to call him by a special title for him). A youkai is a full demon. Since Inu no Taisho is considered to be a daiyoukai, Sesshoumaru is, technically speaking, a daiyoukai himself. He is mostly a calm and collected person who hardly shows any emotions and never laughs.

With the ambition to walk the path of conquest, he desires to become stronger, even at the expense of others. He will not, however, use the shards of the Shikon no Tama to gain strength, which separates him from other youkai questing for power. Sesshoumaru was obsessively proud about his father, and because he respected his bloodline, he despised Inuyasha whose mother is a human and insulted Naraku who wanted to take advantage of Sesshoumaru’s power. For one with such pride in his power, copperation is proof of weakness and being alone is the condition for the strong.

Sesshoumaru originally coveted InuYasha’s sword, the powerful Tetsusaiga. Tetsusaiga was a destructive sword made from one of his father’s fangs. A barrier was cast around the sword so that most youkai (demons) or one without compassion for humans (which would include Sesshoumaru) cannot hold or wield it as it burns their flesh.
Even knowing that he cannot touch the sword, Sesshoumaru still desired to take it from InuYasha. He fought with InuYasha in their father Inu no Taisho’s grave and by chance, InuYasha transformed the blade for the first time and hacked off Sesshoumaru’s left arm. After that, Sesshoumaru began using the arms of other youkai, but they rotted and became useless after a while since the organs of lesser demons can’t bear the power of a daiyoukai that is contained within Sesshoumaru.

Techniques:
- Straight attack: Strikes, Poison claws.
- Weapon acttack: Tokijin and later is Bakusaiga.
- Demon-power assisted acttack: Giant dog Transformation.
- Defend: Nullify poison. Nullify demon aura, Tenseiga’s barrier.

Sesshoumaru inherited the Tenseiga, the companion blade of the Tessaiga, another sword made from his father’s fang. However, the Tenseiga, which be said that can bring 100 people back to life with a single swing, was originally incapable of harming an opponent, thus it was useless in a battle. This is why he desired the Tetsusaiga instead. He eventually used the power of Tenseiga to resurrect the head of Goshinki so that Kaijinbo could forge the Tokijin from his fangs. Although the Tokijin was a formidable weapon, it is later destroyed during a fight with Moryomaru. However, the swordsmith Totosai reforged Tenseiga with the ability to send opponents into the afterlife with a single swing, making it a weapon to replace Tokijin. And then, after Tenseiga lost its destructive power, in a fight with Magatsuhi- another Naraku’s affiliate, Sesshoumaru gained a new sword of his own called Bakusaiga. With that sword, Sesshoumaru was said that he has surpassed his father.

Beside the well-known haft-brother Inuyasha and their father, recently it has been revealed that Sesshomaru has a mother who is still alive. In chapter 466 (beyond the anime). Sesshoumaru was said to be looking for something, and it turned out to be his mother. She is an inu-youkai too and she lives in a huge mansion in the sky that shows her hight status. Her character is somehow alike Sesshoumaru so much. She is cold, calm outside but when she teached Sesshoumaru about the value of life, compassionate heart and saved Rin later, we can see that she has a heart more gentle than the outlook.

After a fight with Inuyasha, Sesshoumaru was seen recovering in a forest after almost being slain by his brother’s successful use of the Wind Scar (Kaze no Kizu). This is where the young human girl Rin entered the series. She saw him being bleeding and unconscious and she attempted to revive him. Over the period of many days, she kept visiting him at his resting spot, bringing him food and water, which was refused and he told her “I don’t eat human food”. After one of her visits in particular, he noticed she had been beaten and asks her about her bruises. She didn’t answer and he came to realize she was mute.

Rin was thrilled at his inquery and interest in her and just flashed him a huge smile. To which he scoffed at and end his one sided conversation.

After Sesshomaru had healed and left the forest, he came to find the young girl dead, torn apart by wolves. Instead of turning and leaving her, he used his sword Tenseiga for the first time to revive her and bring her back to life.

The encounter with Rin awaken him as the true owner of Tenseiga. The smile and fleeting life of the young girl who tried to save him caused Sesshoumaru to change for the first time. The will of his father, who cared for human, has been passed to the son.
